Gospel 24-7: Whole-Life Gospel, Whole-Life Practice

Post-conference seminars

The gospel changes everything. That’s the goal at least. Christ calls us to see everything we are, everything we do, every person we meet through the clarifying lens of what he’s accomplished on the cross and sent us to do. That doesn’t just mean that we have a glorious message to share, or Spirit-empowered compassion to lavish, it means that everything we do –- from the wage structure in a GP’s practice to the selection of patients for a clinical trial – has to flow out of the implications of this Good News for Everything.

Still, the reality is that overall, for the last 150 years, the gospel that’s been shared has been a smaller gospel. It’s been a gospel of glorious personal salvation, praise God, and a gospel of urgent social action on behalf of the poor, but not also a gospel engaged in the transformation of all our everyday things and the reimagining of our work, our workplaces, our institutions, our cultures, our nations. What might blossom in our medical practice as well as in our private lives if we grasp more deeply the majestic scope of this gospel? Come explore and imagine together.

Mark Greene is Mission Champion at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity. He grew up Jewish and joyous and was wooed to Jesus at 23. He is an ex-NYC adman and ex-theological college vice-principal. He became Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity in 1999, magnetically drawn to their focus on empowering people to be fruitful for Christ in all of life, and empowering church leaders to help them.

His books include Thank God it’s Monday, Fruitfulness on the Frontline, and Probably the Best idea in the World. He is married to Katrina, a Finn, and they have three adult children. Mark loves fiction and film and does a passable imitation of Mr Bean and an unrecognisable one of Sean Connery. His wife wishes it were the other way round. His children wish he wouldn’t do either.
